Dragons are hunters, arguably nature’s top predator. The prospect of hunting one isn’t exactly a simple matter – as more than one valiant knight in shining armor learned the hard way.
Those that don suits of metallic armor, strap a sword to their belt, and ride off into the sunset seeking to rid the countryside of their scaly neighbors are indeed going about the process all wrong. A dragon’s claws are sharp enough to rip any manmade defenses to shreds; their scales are sturdy enough to repel any weapon; their senses are keen enough to detect any oncoming attacks. Anyone facing such a creature in such a way isn’t truly an opponent: they’re dinner.
But dragon hunters do exist. They aren’t knights, however: they’re wizards. The myth that dragons are immune to magic is ultimately a flawed one; and, while traditional weapons fall short of draconic capabilities, magic’s potential is boundless.
